On Friday, May 24, 2024, the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics hosted the 13th edition of the “Microelectronic Systems Engineering – SERGIU RĂDĂUŢAN” International Student Competition. This event was organized by the Technical University of Moldova, the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, and the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering, in celebration of UTM’s 60th anniversary.
The competition brought together 33 student teams from various higher education institutions in the Republic of Moldova (Technical University of Moldova, Bălți Polytechnic College, and the Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics), Romania (Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iași, TRANSILVANIA University of Brașov, Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iași, and Politehnica University of Timișoara), and Ukraine (Vinnytsia National Technical University). The event provided a platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity in the fields of microelectronic systems and biomedical engineering.
The competition was honored by the presence of notable academic figures, including Professor Dr. Victor Șontea, the founder of the competition; Prof. Dr. habil. Vasile Tronciu, Vice-Rector for Research at UTM; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dumitru Ciorbă, Dean of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics; and Prof. Dr. habil. Oleg Lupan, Head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering.
The competition was divided into two main sections: one dedicated to microelectronic systems and the other to biomedical engineering. Students presented innovative projects and participated in various practical challenges, displaying thorough preparation and a remarkable competitive spirit.
This year’s edition received significant support from the business community, with active involvement from numerous companies in the electronics and biomedical engineering sectors. The “Microelectronic Systems Engineering – SERGIU RĂDĂUŢAN” Student Competition has once again proven to be a cornerstone in engineering education. This event provides students with a unique opportunity to test their skills, deepen their knowledge, and connect with potential employers in high-performance fields. The competition also promotes innovation and sparks interest in engineering careers, becoming a cherished tradition.
