ISSC -International Student Support Center

At the Technical University of Moldova (UTM), a special event took place – the official inauguration of the International Student Support Center (ISSC), an ambitious project co-financed by UMAEF and FAM within the framework of the Internationalization Initiative at TUM. This center is dedicated to supporting international students, providing essential solutions for their academic and social integration in the Republic of Moldova.

The event was held in the Administrative Building, office 208, and was attended by important figures from UTM leadership, project partners, and members of the academic community.

Among the participants were:

  • Viorel Bostan, Rector of the Technical University of Moldova
  • Daniela Pojar, Vice-Rector for International Relations
  • Stella Jemna, Country Representative for Moldova at UMAEF
  • Gabriela Ojog, Executive Director of the Foundation for Development

as well as members of the International Relations Department, Erasmus Center, International Cooperation Office, and Foreign Students Section.

During the inauguration, Rector Viorel Bostan delivered an emotional speech, emphasizing the importance of internationalizing the university and the commitment to attracting as many students as possible from around the world.

“The Technical University of Moldova aims to become an attractive destination for international students. We want to create an open academic environment in which cultural and academic diversity is a key strength. It is essential that students openly express their wishes and needs, and we at UTM are here to respond with effective solutions,” said Rector Bostan.

At the inaugural event, several international students were also present. In a very emotional moment, they demonstrated that shortly after arriving at UTM, they had already learned Romanian. They wanted to express their gratitude to Rector Viorel Bostan and the entire university leadership for the opportunities provided and for the support given during the integration process.

One of the students said in Romanian:

“I want to thank the Technical University of Moldova for everything I have learned here and for the help I received. In just a few months, I managed to learn Romanian and feel part of this community. Here at UTM, I found not only an educational institution, but also a place where I felt at home. Thank you, Mr. Rector, for this opportunity!”

This center was created to support international students throughout all stages of their academic journey, from the admission and enrollment process to integration into the local community.

The center will provide international students with a wide range of services, including assistance with obtaining visas and residence permits, support in finding accommodation, academic and social counseling, and Romanian language courses. Students will also benefit from orientation events to familiarize themselves with the local culture.

An important aspect of the ISSC is close collaboration with relevant agencies and authorities to facilitate the recognition and validation of foreign students’ study documents. Through these efforts, the center will support the international promotion of UTM’s academic offerings, thereby strengthening the university’s reputation and global visibility.

With a community of 405 international students enrolled to date, the Technical University of Moldova aims to increase this number every year, continuing to develop a stable, safe, and high-quality environment for students. The majority of them are enrolled in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and UTM plans to attract even more international students in the coming years.

Rector Bostan concluded his speech with an encouraging message: “We want all students to feel at home here, to express their wishes, and to be part of a global community. Together, we will continue to make UTM a top university that inspires young people from around the world.”

In conclusion, the opening of this center represents an important step toward the internationalization of the Technical University of Moldova and the strengthening of global educational relations. Through these initiatives, UTM reaffirms its commitment to providing an excellent academic environment and contributing to the formation of a generation of young professionals ready to meet the challenges of an increasingly interconnected world.
